An Investigation of CCD Cameras and Image Processing Techniques for the Large Adaptive Reflector CCD CameraBased Surface Measurement System

By: Brent Carlson

The geometry of a single CCD camera based surface measurement system has been studied and simulated in some detail. In this technique, cameras are mounted on the ground and look up at targets on the back of three overhead hexagonal surface panels. Targets embedded in the back of the panels are imaged with a CCD camera -- the resulting image is then processed to yield the 3 dimensional coordinates of the targets to high precision. To measure the entire surface of the LAR, consisting of up to 1600 panels, up to 400 cameras in this configuration will be required. This document studies the single camera technique -- includi
