Ruby on Rails (http://rubyonrails.org) is a web application framework written using the Ruby programming language. It was originally created by David Heinemeier Hansson, a Danish hacker, during the development of an online project collaboration tool called Basecamp. As with most great things, Ruby on Rails started as an itch. Hansson was not happy with the available web application frameworks at the time, so he decided to write his own.
